Welcome lovelies to Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop for March 2019. This month's theme is Mixed Media...wah!! I'm Sharni Haines from Australia and have been Scrapbooking for many years...but this month's challenge is something quite new for me and I was quite excited to step out of my comfort zone to try it out. I can't wait to see what everyone else has created either.

When I design any scrapbook pages, I like to do it around the chosen photo. This is important to me because I find the photo(s) help me set the scene. They guide me to what style the page should be and what colours and embellishments I need to use to compliment and help the photo to shine.
This is a two page spread of our son Angus in full action during his time in Italy 2017. It's not my normal colour palate or design. Those who know me, I am more of a pink, floral & shabby chic kind of gal. But I am pleased with my ruggaged and rustic results.
Being my first true mixed media project, I let myself go a little 'wild' and just have some fun with colours and textures that I felt worked ok with the photo.
This is Angus rock climbing (or correct term - Via Ferrata in the Dolomites in Italy) He traveled to Italy then Finland for some big Orienteering events in 2017, and I wanted to display and journal some of these exciting and unique experiences he has had.
I started with a Whisper White 12x12" cardstock and distressed all the edges then inked them with Grey Granite. I then stamped the cardstock with Grey Granite, Crumb Cake & Lemon Lime Twist using the following stamps; Handwritten, Swirly Bird & Artisan Textures.
Then I used White Embossing Paste to give some texture to the page. I used the Pattern Party Decorative Masks and also created my own mask by cutting out leaves from the Foliage Frame & Wonderful Floral Framelits onto normal cardstock. This works for a one time session and then the paper gets too saturated and you need to make a fresh one after a few uses. But I love the freedom to use what you like.
Embellishments I used on both pages were all from current SU catalogues (as was the brief) - Metallics Sequin Assortment, Leaves Trinkets, Frames Elements, White Flax Ribbon & some white twine I had from the SAB Precious Parcel Card Kit.
I painted the Leaves Trinkets (silver ones) and the wooden Frames Elements with a white craft paint then once dry, daubered over lightly with Grey Granite. I also coloured the twine and white ribbons with Grey Granite.
You can see underneath the edge of this rolled and ripped paper, I have placed some White Flaxed Ribbon (coloured with Grey Granite). To give the 12x12" cardstock more strength, I glued it onto a piece of thin cardboard ( the thin white card that comes on the back with some of our DSP).
I used Twinkle Twinkle and Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper and Basic Black, Whisper White and a bit of Lemon Lime Twist. The Lemon Lime bits of paper I actually embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder (hard to see here).
I used my Bone Folder to give the leaves a little curl. I used Grey Granite and Lemon Lime Twist A4 Cardstock. I also put a little bit of Gray Granite ink onto the leaves.
A close up of one of the accents on my page. You can see the Embossing Paste (white) in the shape of leaves amongst the inking. After I took this photo,
I later added sequins because I forgot about them!
I have created a video tutorial on how I made the second page in great detail for those interested.
