Hello lovelies,
welcome to another fun Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop. This Thursday we are looking at Nature. What a beautiful topic! There are endless photos and ideas for this theme and to be honest, if I had been more organised, perhaps I would have taken different photographs. But, I do not regret what I have I chosen. I decided to walk around my own garden and capture some special little things that come from nature and make me happy.
I'm Sharni Haines from South Australia you may have started here or come from the talented Sherry either way have a look and keep on hopping around to see what beautiful creations everyone has to share with us today.
Here is our beautiful and incredibly talented Scrapbooking Global - Stampin' Up! Creative Team.
Today's theme is brought to you by Sherry.
Well, I need to say there was a lot of positive creative energy put into these pages! And I had a ball. Once I designed the first page, the second one was much quicker.
It looks like a lot...but really it's just ink and paper (and a little bit of wood). The photos are busy and so is the background but I feel it worked well together at the end. This is actually the second page...but I made it first!
I started with two 12 x 12" Whisper White Cardstock sheets and embossed some script from the retired En Francais stamp with White Embossing Powder. Then with Garden Green, Seaside Foam & Terracotta Tile Inks I smeared the colours onto to the paper with a plastic bag. (the inks were pressed onto a waterproof sheet and spritzed with water then picked with a small plastic bag and wiped/smeared over the cardstock).
You may also see the leaves I stamped with Early Espresso from the Forever Fern Stamp Set.
I inked the edges of the two pages with Stazon Jet Black Ink using a dauber then softened the edges with a light layer of Sahara Sand. This sponging technique helped bring out some of the random embossing I did over the page.
I printed my journaling out onto normal copy paper and mounted it onto some black cardstock. Once glued down to the black, I distressed the edges with my fingers. All the journal blocks were adhered to the pages with the Foam Adhesive Strips.
I used the In Good Taste Elements (wood) and a bit of Linen Thread to decorate the pages.
This is the first page - all the photos have been taken from my succulent collection around the sides of the house where it's warm and sunny most times of the year. It's a challenge for me to grow these dry loving plants because of the generally wet and cooler climate here for most seasons (except summer!!). So what is generally very common and easy to grow everywhere else in the state, I actually consider these plants my special babies!!
I love to create little 'stories' around my plants, so they have a lovely space to grow with a bit of an eclectic feel...I collect old used household items and some beautiful hand made art pieces to plant and display my succulents in.
Getting back to technique, the foliage dies I used are from the Forever Fern Bundle. I cut them from Garden Green Cardstock and World of Good and Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper.
The black spots were created by dropping some black ink refill onto some plastic and I picked it up with a water pen and tapped the pen with my hand to splatter the ink over my work.
I had the photos developed as 4 x 4" photos which I thought would make interesting and fun pictures to work with. I mounted each one with Whisper White then Basic Black Cardstock.
The pages were build up layer by layer without too much emphasis on perfection of the placement of the foliage and embellishments. I did a quick 'dry' placement before permanently gluing down the elements.
Sometimes things can look better without too much overthinking!!
So there you are...my little bit of nature!
